Penicuik Cuckoo

2012-2018 (On Hiatus)

Graphic/Web Design

The Penicuik Cuckoo is a news website that originally launched as a free community newspaper, serving the town of Penicuik and the surrounding area.

I founded the Cuckoo in 2012 whilst in high school and created a graphic identity and associated website. Using desktop publishing software, I created a 16 page full colour tabloid newspaper, which was then distributed to 1000 homes in the Penicuik area. The design and layout was intentionally simplistic with echoes of the popular i newspaper.

When the physical publication ceased, the strengthened the online presence of the Cuckoo, ensuring the website was easy to use and the social media accounts followed a cohesive design language.
